Two clubs from Cyprus are fined for fixed matches

Two teams from Cyprus that are playing in the top division of national championship — "AEZ Zakakioy" and Karmiotissa — were fined by football association of Cyprus with $54 000 for participation in fixed matches.

Matches with these clubs were considered to be fixed ones by the special commission of UEFA, as Cyprus-mail reports.

"AEZ" got under suspicion after the match with "APOEL" during which the team has lost with the score 0:7. The UEFA noted a large amount of bets made on five and more goals in the first half of the football match. As a result after 45 minutes of a match the score was 5:0 in favor of "APOEL".

Karmiotissa has played its match during the country Cup against AEK Larnaca. A lot of bets were made on club defeat with a difference in five and even more points. The outcome — 6:1 in favor of AEK.

The UEFA has informed KFA and then the local football authorities made the decision to punish clubs.

"AEZ" made the appeal on the decision, but it was rejected. Each club is fined with $54 000. In case these two teams are convicted of similar frauds once again, they are threatened by points removal, and in future the teams can be eliminated from participation in football competitions.
