In the central match of the eighth round of the English Premier League Liverpool and Manchester City have tied the game.

On Sunday in frames of the English Premier League the great fight has taken place – Liverpool against Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp and Josep Guardiola’s teams were sharing the place at the top of the tournament bracket though by the time of a starting whistle Chelsea has managed to bypass them. The team from Manchester was thinking about rehabilitation before the fans after the failure the other week. The Reds have shown a game, surprisingly weak for themselves during the away match against Napoli in the Champions League and have lost the game.

Jurgen Klopp has made one unexpected decision in the defensive line of Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold who on the day of a match was celebrating his 20 years old birthday was warming the bench and Joe Gómez has been transferred to the right wing of defense. In the center the company to Virgil van Dijk was kept by Dejan Lovren. Naby Keïta who had had a spasm in a back in Naples was available, but he began a game on a bench. What about Manchester City, here it was worth mentioning several moments. Benjamin Mendy has restored his health and has returned on the left wing of defense. In the attacking trio there was a place for Riyad Mahrez while Leroy Sane remained on the bench. Kevin De Bruyne who has returned to training spells wasn’t included into the bid of the Citizens – the Belgian still needs to regain a form.

Mahrez has missed a penalty

On the first minutes Liverpool organized high pressure, trying to put pressure upon the rival. Despite it, Manchester City didn’t give up on the style and was building the attacks from the defensive line through a short and average assist. Eventually the game wasn’t uncovered in any way though fans for certain were waiting for open and productive football. It was obvious that teams were testing the game and at the same time were afraid of each other. In the middle of the first half the fans of the Citizens got a claim to the chief arbitrator. Sergio Agüero was kicked in a leg by Dejan Lovren in penalty area, but Martin Atkinson’s whistle has kept silence.

The first substitution Jurgen Klopp had to make already at the end of half an hour of the gaming time. James Milner has been injured and couldn’t continue a game. Naby Keïta had to come on the field. What about the game, the audience on Anfield continued to observe tactical fight and the total absence of the goal chances. For the whole first half Liverpool and Manchester City have made 3 shots on goal.

Soon after a break Liverpool has added in activity and has organized several approaches to the rival’s gate. But the real chance to score in the fast attack has received Manchester City. Riyad Mahrez on entering the penalty area of the rival has managed to come round Andrew Robertson, has moved under the left leg and has kicked but hasn’t got to a far bottom corner. The Reds have responded with Mohamed Salah’s shot from the penalty line of the area – Ederson without large problems has caught a ball in hands.

In fifteen minutes till the end of the main time Riyad Mahrez from the right edge of penalty area has kicked into the near corner but Alisson has played reliably. And on the 85th minute Martin Atkinson has awarded a penalty in gate of Liverpool when Virgil van Dijk in the penalty area has violated rules against Leroy Sane, and didn’t manage to score a goal. Riyad Mahrez has undertaken to shot a penalty kick but nothing good has happened – the Algerian has shot a ball over a crossbeam. It is curious that Mahrez has obviously taken away the right for penalty shot from Gabriel Jesus.

As a result Liverpool and Manchester City have tied a game for the first time since February, 2010. Very few people expected such result. Meanwhile, three teams are ruling in the Premier League: three teams have 20 points. Arsenal and Tottenham are very close so intrigue is serious.
