Malaysia: more than 8 000 mobile phone numbers have been blocked up due to gambling advertising

Malaysia government have strict position concerning gambling

Calvin Ayre claims with the reference to Malaysian news agency Bernama that Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has forced local telecommunication companies to block up more than 8000 mobile phone numbers because of the SMS messages that contain or advertise illegal gambling. The head of the MCMC Datum Jailani Johari has informed that the government was made to do so as more than 400 complains on getting such SMS messages had been received. The government official has added that these mobile phone numbers have been redirected to the law enforcement authorities for further investigation.
In February 2016 the local authorities had blocked 399 gambling websites and a lot of Malaysian public organizations had asked the cell phone network operators to take the active steps in blocking SMS messages containing gambling. The operators are asked to follow the local banks and to ask their clients to give their finger prints while registration of a cell phone number.
