Snooker player was banned to take part in competitions for 15 months because of betting

The Disciplinary Committee of World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WORLD SNOOKER) convened a hearing against Leo Fernandez on June 24, 2016, as the press service of the organization reports.

The Committee got interested in the match of qualifying round of the World Snooker Championship, in which Fernandez met with Gary Wilson on April 6 this year. There were a lot of bets made on the fact that Fernandez will commit the first foul in the first frame of the match.

The athlete has admitted that he did this in order to earn on betting.

On 5th of July Disciplinary Committee has announced the decision to disqualify Leo Fernandez from snooker for 15 months. This disqualification starts from May 27, when the organization temporarily suspended the player from the competition. Fernandez will have the right to play officially in August 27, 2017. In addition, the athlete will pay £ 2 000 fee on the cost of WPBSA, associated with this case.

Fernandez also promised to help the Association in the fight against corruption: he will try to influence the other players that they are not involved into fixed games.
